You are currently viewing How do I clean a jam pan where the jam has stuck to the bottom?

When making jam, it is not uncommon for some traces of burnt jam to stick to the bottom of the pan.

To help you get rid of the burnt sugar, several methods can be used. Here are some of them.

Use hot water or vinegar

Generally, when the jam pan has burned, the food product blackens and sticks to the bottom of the pan. To get rid of this seemingly impenetrable gunk, you’ll need to first break through this glaze barrier, then restore the shine using a good scrub.

To do this, put your jam pan on the stove. Once it is hot enough, pour in a cup of water, half a glass of vinegar or any other product used for cleaning in the kitchen. Then let it simmer.

While the water or vinegar relaxes the glaze barrier, you can now rub the burnt areas with a wooden spoon or gum sponge.

Soak the jam pan

In case the first method doesn’t work, you can soak the jam pan in a liquid that will lift the burn marks and make it easier to remove the jam debris.

To do this, fill your pan completely with water, then add a few drops of dishwashing detergent. Stir it all up and let it sit for at least an hour. Then wash the burnt areas using a magic sponge.

Use a soft drink

This is not a bad joke. Soda can also be a great ally in fighting off any gunk that gets stuck to the bottom of your pan.

Fill the pan with enough soda to cover the bottom, then let it sit for at least an hour until all the gunk is completely gone. After that, you can now proceed with the complete cleaning using a magic sponge.

Scrubbing with a magic sponge

You’ve tried everything, but there are still a few burn marks that refuse to disappear? You’ll have to resort to the good old-fashioned method. Indeed, depending on the type of pan, there are many ingredients such as salt or baking soda that can help you restore the shine to your pan.

You can either use them independently or combine them with other products such as detergent or lemon juice for optimal effectiveness. Cleaning should also be done with a magic sponge.
